YOUTH FOOTBALL: Rams outlast Colts, Cubs top Frosh Eagles

The playoff bound BarLyn Cubs defeated the visiting Albion Frosh Eagles 34-18 Saturday in the Frosh Division of the Niagara Orleans Football Association.

In another Frosh Division contest, the Roy-Hart Mini Rams edged the Medina Colts 32-26 in a wild sea-saw game at Vets Park.

Eddie Schildt scored four touchdowns on carries of 30, 32, 42 and 7 yards and finished with a total of 148 yards to lead the Cubs offense.

Cole Evans also rushed for a touchdown as Jacob Bruning added two extra points and Hunter McAvoy and Cody Bentley one each.

Devon Mangan, Eric Neace, Bruning, Andrew Jenks, Evans, Bentley and Nolan Donald also all contributed to the Cubs’ total of 246 yards rushing.

On defense, Matt Scroger had two fumble recoveries and Bruning one while McAvoy and Bentley each had a sack.

Jenks, Donald and Mangan each made three tackles and Scroger, Christian Wolck and Nick Albone two. Schildt, Bruning, Jay Silversmith, Thomas Culmo, Evans and Josh Canham were also all in on tackles.

Joe Hughson rushed for three touchdowns for the Frosh Eagles on carries of 11, 74 and 34 yards. He finished with a total of 144 yards. Antonio Vellejo added 49 yards and Cory Reynolds 47.

Defensively for the Eagles, Reynolds had 8 tackles, Brandon Sanford 7, Hughson 5, Vellejo 4, Blake Aina and Robert Satchwell 3 and Justin Stritzinger, Dominic Farley and Tyler Burley 2 each. Burley also had an interception and Stritzinger a fumble recovery.

The Cubs will face Roy-Hart at 9 am. Saturday at Vets Park in the playoff semifinals.

Roy-Hart Rams 32, Medina Colts 26

Brendon Hess scored a touchdown on a 6 yard run with just 41 seconds remaining to earn the Mini Rams a narrow 32-26 win over the Colts.

A fumble recovery by Eric Fitch then preserved the Rams’ victory.

The Colts had tied the game at 26-26 on a 60-yard touchdown run by Jake Cotter with 2:43 remaining.

Hess had a total of four touchdowns on the day for the Rams which also got an 85-yard TD run by Aaron Currie which put Roy-Hart on top 26-20 with 3:49 to go.

Cotter had four touchdowns on the day for the Colts including runs of 42, 69 and 52 yards. He had a total of 237 yards rushing.

Damon Bloom added 85 yards for the Colts.

Jon Salone and Dylan Brown each made 10 tackles for the Colts, Bloom 8 and Ian Joseph 7. Brown also had a sack and Ray Follman a fumble recovery.

Matt and Tim Maines combined for three fumble recoveries for the Rams.
