READER LETTER: Wind energy not all bad

The Journal-Register

This is written in response to Thom Jennings’ article, “Generating winds of change,” in Thursday’s, May 22, paper.

I suppose he prefers looking at a landscape with huge factories belching smoke such as the ethanol plant in Medina and the coal burning electrical facility on the shores of Lake Ontario. Smoke and pollution generated from these structures can be seen for miles. Also, he probably prefers the huge silos dotting the landscape for corn storage.

Similar to the many electrical lines on giant steel structures seen all over this land, the wind turbines would not be much different aesthetically. Also, farming is still possible in and around these turbines, which isn’t feasible where currently huge factories of plants take up acres of soil.

As to the health problems mentioned, how about the concerns of electromagnetic fields generated by electrical wire structures? What about the noise generated by the local ethanol facility, not to mention the noise caused by all of the large trucks needed to transport their product?

My feelings are wind structures give an artistic appearance. As I traveled through Holland, I was struck by the beauty of the windmills slowly rotating in the countryside. They were not spewing pollution into our atmosphere.

The time for environmentalism is now, not in the future.
