Staff Reports
The Journal-Register

ALBION — A city of Rochester man was charged Thursday with criminal possession of a controlled substance following a vehicle and traffic stop in the Village of Albion.

The stop was the culmination of two-month investigation into the sale and distribution of crack cocaine and marijuana in the village.

Roy Anthony Crawley, 30, 120 Dr. Samuel McCree Way, Rochester, was arrested as he was traveling on West Avenue in Albion.

Crawley’s vehicle was stopped by the county Major Felony Crime Task Force, along with the Albion Police Department and the Orleans County Sheriff’s K-9 unit.

“As a result of the stop, a search was conducted of the vehicle,” according to a news release issued by task force supervising Investigator Joseph Sacco. “Orleans County Sheriff’s K-9 Cliff alerted on the vehicle, which produced a nylon bag containing a quantity of packaged crack cocaine and packaged marijuana concealed in the engine compartment of the vehicle.”

Crack cocaine and marijuana with a street value of $2,500 was seized by law enforcement, according to the report.

Following the vehicle stop, police executed a search warrant at 35 N. Main St., Albion, which was a location being rented by the suspect and the focus of the investigation, Sacco said.

Crawley was charged Thursday with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation.

He was arraigned in the Town of Albion Justice Court and committed to the Orleans County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to return Wednesday to Albion Town Court.
