CHASE: Police seek car theft suspect

Medina PD investigating after high-speed chase

STAFF REPORTS

Medina Police are investigating the whereabouts of a male driver following a high speed chase into the Town of Shelby on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when two officers on foot patrol along Main Street in Medina spotted a vehicle reported stolen from the Village of Lyndonville, said Police Chief Jose Avila.

At least one of the officers initiated pursuit, but the vehicle failed to stop, he said. The vehicle was trailed near Ryan Road, where the suspect drove it into a cornfield and ran away.

“The officer gave chase, but couldn’t catch the suspect,” Avila said. “We have not been able to catch him or identify him.”

The stolen vehicle has been recovered, and damage to the cornfield is being assessed. Neither of the police officers were harmed in the incident, Avila said.

Investigations were ongoing, as of Monday.
