ALBION —
Albion Middle School will perform the classic children’s story “A Little Princess.”
The tale is about a young girl who, after her father dies, is forced into servitude at the boarding house where she lives.
She then finds friendship and compassion when she least expects it.
“It’s a fairytale story of a little girl’s life,” said director Carrie Kozody. “It’s a very heartwarming story.”
“A Little Princess” will be performed at 7 p.m. today and noon and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Albion Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for adults.
“It’s a good story,” said seventh-grade cast member Charlyne Olick. “The songs are energetic and some are quite sad. It’s just a nice show.”
Kozody said that this year, she was having a difficult time finding the perfect fall show.
“I heard the score and fell in love with the show,” she said. “I knew then and there that this was the show.”
Eighth-grader Lydia Erakave, who will play the role of Miss Minchin, said that the audience will really like the songs and story the show offers.
Playing the villain in this year’s production, Erakave said she found it hard to always be mean.
“It was hard to learn to be mean,” she said. “A lot of the girls in the play are sweet and are my friends, so it’s hard to be mean to them.”
Despite being mean, she did like getting to be dramatic.
“She’s very dramatic,” Erakave said. “I’m very dramatic, so I got to get that out.”
Kozody said the 27 seventh- and eighth-grade students who make up the cast and crew have been working very hard on and off the stage. She is especially proud of the 91.74 cumulative average that the cast has maintained.
“We’ve gotten so far,” said stage manager eighth-grader Amber Smarpat. “They’ve progressed a lot as we went.”
