ARMED ROBBER STRIKES IN ALBION:Clerk locked in bathroom while thief pilfers cash

By Michael Regan/reganm@gnnewspaper.com

An armed robber stormed into a Sugar Creek store in Albion and stole an undisclosed amount of money early Friday morning.

Albion Officer-in-Charge Dean London said the robbery happened at approximately 2 a.m. inside the business located on the corner of routes 31 and 98.

“The information given was that (the robber) did display what appeared to be a hand gun,” he said. “The (victim) couldn’t identify the make or model.”

London said the thief locked the male clerk up before taking the money. Unconfirmed reports also indicate that video equipment may have been stolen as well.

“Apparently the employee was locked into ... I believe it was the bathroom area,” London said. “He did take a quantity of cash, but I don’t know the exact amount.”

The thief was initially described as a white or Hispanic male, London noted.

A statement released by Wilson Farms, Inc., the company that owns the Sugar Creek chain, said that the clerk was left unharmed. No further information was available.

“Obviously it’s an ongoing investigation and we’re tracking him down,” London noted. “We do have a few leads on it. There’s going to be additional information down the road.”
