Intersection to get new markings, speed limit

Medina Journal-Register — The intersection of Salt Works Road and Maple Ridge Road was discussed at Tuesday’s Shelby Town Board meeting, and it appears something may finally be done to alleviate some safety concerns at the corner.

Orleans County Legislator Bill Eick, of Shelby, said he made a few calls and eventually the NYS Department of Transportation studied the intersection. The conclusion reached was that the intersection needed a double yellow line.

Eick told the board the line work was not yet completed. He said he met with other surrounding highway departments in the area to work on getting that done.

He also said the state has approved the speed limit near the corner of the two roads dropping down to 45 miles per hour. The change in speed has been added to the state’s work order.

Deputy Supervisor Kenneth Schaal said getting that intersection safer has been “a long, tedious process” and he said he was happy to see something finally on its way to being finished.

In other news, a new Town of Shelby sign made of Medina sandstone was briefly mentioned as a welcome addition to the town hall. It was installed in the past couple weeks after spending several years in storage.
