Medina Journal-Register — In a 9-month period last year the Sandstone Hall of Fame was invented and the inaugural ceremony brought attention to Orleans County and Medina in unexpected ways - like TV and metro-area newspapers. Over the coming years the Sandstone Society expects this endeavor to grow.
Part of that growth will be on display from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon at City Hall in Medina. The downtown exhibit of the handsome buildings chosen in the first year’s Hall of Fame class will be open free of charge to the public. Other historic pictures will also adorn the chamber wall.
James Hancock, chairman of the Hall of Fame, has assembled a committee of eight to offer a welcome to visitors. Earlier this week Hancock himself did some special welcoming, as he greeted a TV crew from WGRZ to shoot a feature segment.
Urban publicity in Rochester recently caught the attention of officials at Sonnenberg Gardens in Central NY. They informed Hancock’s committee that parts of their main building are “built of your famous Medina sandstone.”
