Winterguard takes third

Medina Journal-Register — Medina’s Winterguard season is fully underway, and this past Saturday the team competed at Orchard Park in the Scholastic A classification, taking third place with a score of 63.57.

Varsity members of the guard began their auditions and practices in November, with 25 students in grades seven through 12 working on this year’s show called “Dance of the Dolls.” The show is choreographed to musical selections by Shostakovich, Adele and the Hollywood String Orchestra.

Winterguard is part of the Medina Mustang Marching Band program and under the direction of Jim Steele and Cheri Pritchard. The show was designed by Vincent Monacelli and Kristen Costa, choreographed by Costa and Matt Winans and instructed by Diana Baker. Winans and Baker are MHS alumni.

The Pony Guard consists of 34 students in grades five and six and their show this year is “Roar” with music selection by Katy Perry. The show is designed, choreographed and instructed by Patti Page, also a Medina alum. This group will perform at Medina’s home show on Feb. 22nd.

The next Winterguard performance is scheduled for Feb. 15 at Liverpool.
