Medina Journal-Register — Two local men who started a fire in September were sentenced in Orleans County Court on Monday.
Christopher Swan, 21, of Albion and Edward Schneider, 21, of Medina, both received five years probation and must perform 150 hours of community service.
The fire they were convicted of starting was located on Ridge Road in the Town of Ridgeway. The property was owned by Schneider’s mother.
The two also reached a plea deal on an assault charge stemming from the fact that a firefighter was injured while battling the blaze.
Also in court on Monday, prior felony offender Mitchell Hamlin was sentenced to concurrent sentences for burglary and possession of a weapon.
Hamlin, 21, of Rochester, received a two-to-four year sentence for attempted burglary in the third degree for entering a building in the Town of Clarendon and taking items from a car. He also was handed a six-year sentence for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for carrying a loaded handgun without a permit.
Hamlin also will face five years of post-release supervision upon completion of his time served. His sentences are determinant, which mean he must serve at least seven-eighths of the six-years.
