Medina Journal-Register — RIDGEWAY — When Marie White started organizing a benefit dinner and auction for her son Bob in January, she had no idea what to expect.
On Saturday at the Ridgeway Fire Hall, she knew she could never have imagined what appeared before her.
“I didn’t expect such a success,” she said.
Indeed, the gathering brought in an outpouring of support that included donations of 199 baskets, 74 gift certificates, and 29 large gift items such as TVs and Adirondack chairs.
“It really is a great feeling to see all the community support,” White said.
The Bob White benefit dinner sold at least 350 tickets in advance of Saturday. The Whites plan on using the proceeds from the tickets and the various raffles and auctions throughout the evening to buy a van for Bob.
In 2011, Bob fell from scaffolding at carpentry job and suffered severe injuries to his spine that left him a quadriplegic.
Without getting into specifics, White said she anticipated that Saturday’s event would help the family get close to their van-buying goal.
