Medina Journal-Register — The Medina Theatre Company is hosting its first Comedy Night on Saturday, featuring three professional comedians.
Sky Sands, Linda Oh, and Dan Pordum will be featured in a show scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Pordum organized the show, thanks to his friendship with Medina resident Cal Tuohey.
“I asked him what venues were available out in Medina,” Pordum said. “We spoke, he got me information about the Medina Theatre, and it just went from there.”
Pordum said he thinks “all areas, no matter how small or remote, deserve to get quality comedians in their town because people need to laugh. It’s that simple.”
The acts Pordum helped organize for Saturday’s show, he said, are “experienced.” He said both Oh and Sands are “headliners who know what they’re doing.”
Sands, who is originally from the Rochester area, has played in venues all over the world. From New York City to Los Angeles, with stops in Las Vegas, performances on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and shows in Europe and the Caribbean mixed in.
Sands called his show “magic, madness, and mayhem.” He said, “It’s a high-energy show, with a little magic thrown in. It’s not your average stand-up show.”
He said some have called him a person you’d enjoy watching perform for an hour, but “you wouldn’t want to have me as a roommate. Another person said if I were an amusement park, I’d be a 12-ticket ride.”
Among one the more interesting lines on Sands’s resume, he mentioned, was that he used to also be a clown for what he called a “McRestaurant chain.”
He labeled his act as “fairly clean with the only risque part in your imagination.” Sands said his act has also been seen on VH-1, Cinemax, and Showtime in ensemble productions with other comedians. However, most of his shows have been in theaters or at corporate events, he said, and he noted that he likes to think of himself more as an “entertainer” than as a “comedian.”
