Medina Journal-Register — GO ART! hosts 13th annual awards show

The 13th annual Genesee-Orleans Community Arts Awards Gala Dinner and Auction, presented by GO ART!, will be held Oct. 26 at Terry Hills Golf Course and Banquet Facility in Batavia. GO ART! recognizes the extraordinary contributions in art and culture made by individuals and organizations in the Genesee-Orleans region at this event.

Included among the business honorees this year is Laura Gardner of A Lily and A Sparrow in Medina. In the artist category, the work “The Humans” will be recognized, along with its artists John Dumrese, Richard Doolan, Gar Trusselle, William Kuhns, Martin Busch and the late Danny Long.

The Linda L. Blanchet Award will be announced at the dinner. 

Tickets are $27 for non-members, $25 for members, and advance reservations are required. Local band “The Old Hippies” featuring Bill McDonald will provide musical entertainment. Dress is Business Casual. 

A silent auction featuring quality work by local artists, artisans and cultural organizations will be held throughout the evening, and the annual gala raffle will be held as well. The grand prize this year is 14K white gold pendant necklace with black and white diamonds .50ptw, compliments of Valle Jewelers; value $1,250. The raffle tickets have a requested donation of $5 each or five for $20, and are available at GO ART! and at the event. Winners will be selected in a random drawing at the GO ART! Gala on October 26. One need not be present to win.

GO ART! exhibits on display locally

Albion and Medina are the places for some local GO ART! exhibits, on display through Halloween.

In Albion, the display is located at Genesee Community College. The exhibit, “Blu Angel Art Show III” was created by Larry Buckley of Basom.

Previously, Buckley’s exhibit was shown at the GO ART! Main Gallery in Batavia. The paintings featured include over 50 acrylic and oil works.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Medina’s GO ART! satellite gallery is at the Shirt Factory Café. The exhibit on display is a new work by Bernice Yunker, created using YUPO. The work is titled “Working with Yupo.”

Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and it is closed on Sunday.
