Medina Journal-Register — When Howard and Clara Lake purchased their building at the corner of Park Avenue and Salt Works Road almost two years ago, they knew they had a lot of space to use.
The success of the first part of their business venture, C & H PC, allowed them to add The Park Grille this past summer. And last Monday, the Lakes opened business venture number three: Lakes Wine-N-Spirits.
“We had this in the back of our minds when we bought the building in 2011,” said Howard. “The building has three suites so we wanted to utilize the space.”
The liquor store offers a variety of spirits, but Clara said the main focus will be wines.
“We’ve contacted local vineyards because we want to stock local wines,” she said. “We’ve heard back from some, and some others have reached out to us.”
Though at first glance Lakes Wine-N-Spirits is not the largest space, Howard noted how there is always room for expansion and rearranging if the need arises.
“We can switch it around if we need to,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of ideas.”
Before the Lakes opened their store, Medina featured only one shop, Main Street Liquor, for a while. Howard said he believes “the village can sustain two liquor stores with no problem.” He added that there has been a gradual increase in the new store’s business since opening last week.
Moving forward the Lakes said their newest venture will continue to add stock, filling requests of customers and cultivating a local wine list for patrons.
The official grand opening of Lakes Wine-N-Spirits will be Oct. 12. The couple said they planned a wine tasting on that day from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate the opening.
