Medina Journal-Register — Three teenagers were hospitalized Sunday after their vehicle crashed into a State Street tree in an early-morning accident.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male, was trapped inside the mangled car. He was extricated from the vehicle through the use of a pair of hydraulic rescue tools and was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight helicopter with serious injuries.

One passenger, a 14-year-old male, was also flown by Mercy Flight to receive treatment for serious injuries. He received care from the Village of Medina Fire Department and was transported to Medina Memorial Hospital’s landing zone before being flown to Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

A third passenger, a 16-year-old female received treatment for minor injuries at MMH after being transported by the MFD.

The fire department was dispatched to 408 State Street at 12:42 a.m. Sunday to the site of the car-tree motor vehicle accident. According to Medina Fire Department Public Information Officer Steve Cooley, the front end of the vehicle was completely crushed after the westbound vehicle went off the road near where State curves away from the canal.

All three crash victims were transported to medical treatment within an hour of the crash.

The accident is being investigated by the Medina Police Department in conjunction with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.
