Medina Journal-Register — Workers from the Progressive Roofing Company of Buffalo this past week began the major roof reconstruction project at the Lee-Whedon Memorial Library.

The project will replace the original 1966 built roof with a new 30-year warrantied four ply built-up roof system.

An inspection had previously determined that the existing fiber roof deck was in good condition, said library Director Catherine Cooper who added that the original roofing system will be removed and will be replaced with a new vapor barrier, tapered insulation, half-inch fiber board and a four ply built-up Tremco roof system.

“The addition of insulation will definitely impact positively on the library’s energy bills,” said Board President Maryellen Dale. “The old roof served us well but it has outlived its useful life.”

The project will cost $215,000 and the library has applied for  New York State Construction Grant funds to cover 50 percent of the cost.

The library project is also scheduled to include some interior remodeling work which is planned for the fall.
