Medina Journal-Register — An Orleans County correction officer was injured Wednesday morning during an altercation at the county jail.
The incident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. Officer Janet H. Koehler, a 15-year veteran, was injured during a struggle with Jeremy J. Rothmund, 30, an inmate currently being held in connection with an Albion bank robbery this past July, according to Sheriff Scott D. Hess.
Koehler was transported by Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance to Medina Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Her injuries were not believed to be-life threatening, Hess said.
Charges against Rothmund are pending an investigation by Sheriff’s Investigator K.M. Strickland Jr. and Jail Superintendent S.D. Wilson. Hess said a separate investigation will be conducted by the New York State Commission of Correction, which oversees the operation of county jails & correctional facilities.
