LETTER: Help make the Y better

Medina Journal-Register — I wanted to write this letter to inform your readers of the Orleans County YMCA capital campaign that is in full swing.

The campaign’s overall fund-raising goal is $400,000 to completely renovate the fist floor of the YMCA in Medina. The renovations will include brand new gymnasiums, exercise rooms, child care facilities and a host of other improvements to make the YMCA the place to go for family fitness and fun.

The Orleans YMCA plays a vital community role in affording children and their families a safe and reliable place for child care, both before and after school, for indoor league sports such as volleyball and basketball, for exercise and fitness programs and family activities such as roller skating, movies and more.

I and the othre members of the fund-raising team have committed ourselves to this project that is vital to the overall health of Orleans and Eastern Niagara counties. A community is measured by its resources, including schools, hospitals and facilities for social programs. One out of six people in Orleans County has some connection with the Orleans County YMCA.

I urge all of your readers to consider making a pledge and donation to this important campaign. Depending on the size of your pledge, it can be paid over one to three years.

For info on how to donate, call Jeff Winters, the executive director of the “Y” at 798-2040.
