Kwandrans Tae Kwon Do namesake returns

Medina Journal-Register — Bob Kwandrans left Medina six years ago. This past spring, his job brought him and his family back to the area, and back to the Tae Kwon Do studio that bears his name.

Kwandrans and his family left in 2006 to Fort Wayne, Indiana when his job at the General Motors plant in Lockport led to him transferring.

“There was some turbulence,” he recalled. Thanks to a reliable team of instructors at the downtown business, though, Kwandrans Tae Kwon Do kept going.

“There’s a great team of people here who have been training with me for a long time,” Kwandrans said. “They kept the school functioning and moving in a positive direction.”

Debby Farfaglia, one of the school’s instructors, said having Kwandrans back is definitely a boost.

“Even though he lived almost eight hours away for the past six and a half years, he constantly stayed in touch with every aspect of the school,” she said. “It was through his constant communication that we were able to keep the school running and growing.

“He guided us through every step of the way,” Farfaglia continued. “He has always been very passionate about the school and the students, always pushing everyone to do their very best.”

Kwandrans Tae Kwon Do opened in Medina in 1988 and even while Kwandrans was away he made time to travel back and forth between Medina and Fort Wayne for student testing, work outs, and to “keep the school’s energy going.”

This March, an opportunity presented itself for the family to move back to the Medina area, and Kwandrans took it.

“I’m at the Tonawanda plant now, and now we can start rolling again with a lot of exciting things happening here,” he said.

Plans for the studio are akin to a “positive train moving forward” with a lot of the positivity happening this fall when Kwandrans said there will be several new programs offered.
