Medina Journal-Register — Dump truck spills soy beans, rips power lines

An accident involving a farm vehicle transporting soy beans in the Town of Ridgeway caused no injuries but closed the intersection of Ridge and Knowlesville roads Thursday.

According to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, the dump box of a 10-wheeled dump truck hauling a full load of granulated soy beans was inadvertently raised by driver Eric J. Watson, as it approached Knowlesville Road while traveling westbound on Ridge Road at around 10:30 a.m.

As a result, the entire load spilled onto the roadway and several electrical, telephone and cable television lines were ripped down. The tension on these various utility lines caused at least four utility poles to snap off.

The were no injuries from the accident. The truck driven by Watson, 24, Medina, is owned by Root Brothers Farms in Barre.

The incident brought a response from several utility companies including National Grid, NYSEG, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable.  NYSDOT also responded as did the Town of Ridgeway Highway Department. 

Assistance was also rendered by the Village of Medina DPW. The Ridgeway Fire Department Fire Police Unit assisted the Sheriff’s Office with traffic control.

The incident was investigated by Sheriff’s Deputy J.W. Halstead with the assistance of Sheriff’s Deputies M.C. Mele and E.N. Fuller.

Theft reported from Holley Village Office

The Holley Police Department and the Orleans County Sheriff Office is investigating the theft of an undetermined amount of money taken sometime between Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 at the Holley Village Office.

According to HPD, the money was reported as being stolen out of a cash register at the village offices, 72 Public Square, on Nov. 9.

The HPD urges anyone with information about the crime to contact their office at 638-5308.

Town of Batavia

LARCENY: Emily R. Diamond, 34, Lyndonville was charged Wednesday with petit larceny.
