Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — The Medina Business Association’s membership voted Tuesday to allow the association’s executive board to pursue an agreement that will get a MBA website up in time to sell tickets for the organization’s major fundraiser.
Wine About Winter is only weeks away. The Feb. 2 wine-tasting event will bring upwards of 750 people into downtown shops, but the only way to purchase tickets has been by phone or in-person. The event’s major web presence is wineaboutwinter.com, which currently is a landing page with information about last fall’s Ale in Autumn event.
MBA leadership is keen on creating a website that would include a shopping cart that would make purchasing event tickets easier while providing a resource of local information.
MBA Vice President Kathy Blackburn said the site would tell local shoppers what’s going on at local businesses, serve as a guidepost for visitors and a sign of the village’s vitality for businesses and people looking to relocate to the area. It would also link to member businesses, the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce and pages for events like Ale in Autumn.
Four proposals have been received from parties interested in building the MBA’s website — Lynne Menz Designs, PaperBoys, Machese Computers, and C&H PC. All four are MBA members, but MBA Secretary Patrick Weissand said more clarity is needed to make a final decision.
”The more I look, the more questions I have,” said Weissand, who noted that an apples-to-apples comparison is needed before a final choice is made. “There are thing like content management and domain name services not included (on some of the proposals). That scares me.”
While the lack of information left a section of the membership at Tuesday’s meeting uncomfortable about approving a contract, the body did okay spending up to $1,500 for the site. MBA
