Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — Starting Sunday, Ashlee’s Place will celebrate “Mother’s Week” in advance of Mother’s Day.
Angela Waldriff, owner of the store, started hosting some Mother’s Day-centric events 15 years ago to honor her mom, a breast cancer survivor.
During the week, running from Sunday to May 11, Ashlee’s Place will have various drawings going on, as well as discount cookies — like fortune cookies but with discounts instead of fortunes. Waldriff also said if people spend a certain amount they can get a pink cowboy hat. There are also going to be apple pies for sale during the week — made locally by Hans Rosentreter — and cupcakes made to look like shoes.
Waldriff said the happenings in the store are “girly” but connect well to Mother’s Day and fit with breast cancer awareness.
One idea Waldriff brought back this year is a contest in which participants decorate a bra.
“I’ve seen this done in other states across the country,” Waldriff said, noting she first read about such a contest in South Carolina. A few years ago when she first ran the contest she said about 20 people entered a decorated bra. Contestants this year have until Sunday to submit an entry.
All proceeds from the Mother’s Week promotions at Ashlee’s Place will go towards a donation to a worthy cause. In the past, Waldriff has given to Roswell or other cancer organizations.
