Hoag Library now lending fishing poles

Medina Journal-Register — Albion’s Hoag Library has partnered with the Orleans County Federation of Sportsmen to provide fishing poles for patron use. Patrons will be able to sign out the fishing poles starting Dec. 1. The poles may be borrowed for a one-week time period.

The Orleans County Federation of Sportsmen held an Introduction to fishing program on Tuesday at the Hoag Library where participants got pointers from life-long fisherman on the sport of fishing. They learned about the history of fishing poles and saw the many different types of reels used as well as kinds of hooks, bobbers, sinkers and more. They learned the importance of tying knots and learned about the abundance and variety of fish available in this region.

A second Introduction to Fishing program will be held in the spring of 2014 where participants will be given tips on “casting.”
