Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — This year’s Treasure Island fundraiser for the Orleans Community Health Foundation will feature a treasure chest that will bring a smile to any wine lover.
The event, which will be held Nov. 3 at 5:30 pm. at the Scared Heart Club, raises funds for a new waiting emergency room patients at the Medina Memorial Hospital. More than $40,000 was raised last year for the project, which also has received a pledged five-year contribution of $170,000 from the Jade Twig organization.
Candy Schoenle, the Executive Director of the Orleans Community Health Foundation, said the new waiting room would provide privacy for ER patients, who currently share space with patients receiving lab work and x-ray services.
“There will be one area for outpatient and another for emergency room patients,” Schoenle said.
The Treasure Island festivities include an auction featuring hundreds of unique items like a trip on a hot air balloon; a weekend package to the germantown of Frankenmuth, Mi.; and a weeklong stay in Myrtle Beach. Dinner will be served at food stations catered by Donna Eick.
The newest addition to Treasure Island is “The Lucky Cork,” which Schoenle said will give patrons a chance to win either a bottle of wine from the Niagara Wine Trail or the Finger Lakes region or a wine tasting for their $20 donation. The prizes are decided based on the numbered corks drawn out of a treasure chest.
“Each year we try to incorporate something new to keep guests intrigued,” Schoenle said. “Every cork is a winner.”
Tickets for the event cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. They can be purchased the Foundation office at Medina Memorial, the Garrick Agency, 534 Main St., and Medina Savings & Loan, 11182 Maple Ridge Road; or online at tinyurl.com/96bhq6a.
