Albion man assaulted, seriously injured

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION — Village Police report that a village man suffered life-threatening injuries after being assaulted outside of his home Friday.

The early morning assault led to the arrest of two people.

An APD patrol was dispatched to West State Street after reports of a disturbance and a woman screaming. The victim, whose name was withheld, was found on the ground with serious head trauma at around 1:35 a.m. Friday.

He was transferred to the Erie County Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition, after initially being transported by COVA Ambulance to Medina Memorial Hospital.

According to the report, an investigation indicated that Domingo E. Candelaria, 22, 235 West Park St., Albion went to the residence to confront and physically assault a person known to him. The intended target was not home at the time, but a confrontation occurred between Candaleria and the injured homeowner.

Candelaria fled the scene but was taken into custody by Albion Police at 111 Beaver St. He was charged with second-degree felony, a Class D Felony, and arraigned in Town of Albion Court. Candelaria was held in the County Jail on $100,000 bail ahead of an scheduled appearance in Town of Albion Court Tuesday.

Police also charged Maria Lape, 18, 112 King St. with fourth-degree criminal facilitation, a Class A misdemeanor, after she was taken into custody at 111 Beaver St. The investigation indicated that Lape facilitated the assault by providing aid to Candelaria, which assisted him in committing the assault. She was arraigned in Town of Albion Court and held in the County Jail on $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear Feb. 12 in Town of Albion Court.

Police Chief Roland Nenni said Friday that the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
