Mustang Band wraps season, preps for States

Medina Journal-Register — The Medina Mustang Marching Band performed for the last time on Saturday at Webster High School.

The band won the SS1 division with a score of 89.90, followed by East Irondequoit with 83.95 and Leroy with 79.50.

Practices this week were slated for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday in advance of the band’s performance at the Carrier Dome this weekend.

The 40th Annual New York State Field Band Championship show is scheduled for Sunday. More than 5,000 high school band members representing 52 schools are slated to participate.

There are six classifications for competition based in part on the size of the school district. The smallest band has 38 members and the largest has 210. Adult admission is $15, student admission for ages 5 to 12 is $5 and preschool children under 5 are $2. Tickets can be purchased at the Carrier Dome.

Competition starts at 8 a.m. with SS3. SS1 starts at 6 p.m. and Medina is tentatively on the schedule for 7:05 p.m. There will also be guest performances by the UB Marching Band, the Syracuse University Marching Band and the 198th Army Band.

The entire competition wraps up around 10 p.m.
