Teen wins Halloween karaoke contest

Medina Journal-Register — The Old Mill Run restaurant in Medina hosted a Halloween Karaoke contest Wednesday night, with contestants dressed in costume.

Stella Russo, a Medina teenager, took first place. She sang “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae, “Someone Like You” by Adele, and “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall to win the contest.

The singing competition included a $5 entry fee and featured 17 contestants. Two (Dawn and Josh Parker) performed as a mother-son duo.

Performance order was dictated by contestants drawing numbers from a hat. Each contestant only had to sing half of their second song, and performers went in reverse order.

Judges tallied the scores after the first two rounds to determine the top eight singers, who sang in random order in the final round.

Finishing in second place behind Russo was Layna Viloria. She sang “Ready Or Not” by Bridgit Mendler, “No One” by Alicia Keys, and “Naturally” by Selena Gomez.

Matt Fearby placed third with his renditions of “Rough and Ready” by Trace Adkins, “What Was I Thinkin’” by Dierks Bentley, and “SOLD (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” by John Michael Montgomery.
