Medina Journal-Register — The Medina Area Association of Churches (MAAC) is getting ready to help many families have a Merry Christmas this year. The Medina Fire Department distributed the community’s familiar red barrels throughout Medina on Wednesday to the fire department, schools, churches, banks, and businesses, plus the Library, Senior Citizen Center, and Orchard Manor.
Donations of toys, games, and books for the children and gifts for teenagers and adults will help make Christmas merrier for families who live in Medina or have children who attend school in the Medina District. Hats, mittens/gloves, scarves and socks are also much appreciated gifts.
Another part of the MAAC’s Christmas Box Program includes a meal for Christmas Day and poinsettias or fruit baskets for many of our elderly citizens who are homebound. A person can contribute financially by sending a donation to MAAC at PO Box 253, Medina, 14103. The names of businesses and donors are then announced later.
To sign up for a Christmas Box, bring proper identification and proof of address to Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, 324 Catherine St. (Ann St. Entrance) on Nov. 11, 12, 13 and 19 from 9 a.m. to noon; also evening hours Nov. 12 and 19 from 5 to 7 p.m.
There will be a Senior Citizen sign-up on Nov. 14 and 21, from noon to 2 p.m. at Ricky Place in Medina. All applications must be in by Nov. 21.
In 2012 with the community’s help, the MAAC served 150 families in the Medina community.
