Medina Journal-Register — Unable to overcome as much as an eight run deficit, Medina dropped an 8-4 decision to Newfane Monday in the second and deciding Midget B League playoff title series contest.
Newfane, which took the opening game of the best two out of three title series 3-2 at Medina on Friday, opened up an early 5-0 lead by scoring once in the first on an error and then four times in the third on a two-run double by winning pitcher Will Newton, an RBI single by Nick Olay and an error.
Newfane upped its advantage to a commanding 8-0 margin by tacking on three runs in the fifth frame on four walks, a single, a fielders choice play and an error.
Medina did cut the deficit in half by scoring four runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Dominic DiCureia, Gage Masters, Brad McPherson and a fielders choice play off the bat of Brennan Zinkievich. A walk and a single by Kyle Herman ignited that rally.
However, Medina could get no closer as stranded baserunners proved costly.
Medina got two runners aboard in the seventh after a single by Herman and an error but both were left stranded.
Earlier, a walk, a single by Devonte Howard and another walk loaded the bases in the fifth inning but again all three were left stranded.
