Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Taking the first two sets, Albion went on to defeat Medina 25-12, 25-22, 26-27, 25-14 Wednesday to improve to 7-3 in Niagara-Orleans League volleyball action.
Cady Messmer had 13 spiking kills and nine service aces and Kelsee Soule nine kills and three aces to lead the way for Albion.
“It was so streaky,” Albion coach Ann Capacci said of the match. “Both teams were just very streaky.”
Three bursts of service points keyed Albion to the opening set win as Halle Jurs scored points 3-6, Messmer 9-13 (two aces) and Soule 19-22. Messmer then registered a kill for point 24 an Dakota Zimmer an ace for point 25.
Medina jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the second set as Jenna Carpenter served up points 2-7.
Albion though answered with a key six point run by Messmer (7-12), a run which was capped off by two aces and gave the Purple Eagles a 12-11 lead.
The teams then traded single points most of the rest of the way as Brooke Wilson registered a kill for the set winning point for the Purple Eagles.
Medina though battled back to take the third set in overtime 27-26 as Alba Perez had two big kills for points down the stretch and then served up the set deciding 26th and 27th points.
Abby Button also had two kills in the set for the Mustangs as Carpenter and Nakisha Jones both had one.
The fourth set saw Albion jump out to an early 13-4 lead as Jurs served up points 4-6 and Messmer 9-13 including three aces.
Medina though answered right back with a key run of eight straight points by Button (6-13) to knot the set at 13-13, a run which included two aces and kills by Capenter and Jones.
However, Albion countered with a huge run of nine straight points by Meghan Hurley (15-23), a run which included an ace, a kill by Soule and two blocks by Wilson to regain the upper hand for good.
Soule then closed out the set and the match for the Purple Eagles with a kill for point 25.
The loss drops Medina to 6-5.
MIDDLEPORT - Eliza Schwab had 14 service points including five aces, Danielle Kindron six kills and nine points including two aces, Justine Wittcop four kills and Morgan Jones three kills to lead Roy-Hart (4-7) to a three et Senior Night victory over Newfane (3-7).
AKRON - Undefeated (10-0) Wilson put a lock on a second straight NO title with a four set victory over Akron (6-4).
Lindsay Bryer had 41 assists and four kills, Jordan Glosser 15 kills and 10 digs, Kaylee Stewart 12 kills, Allie Bubar 19 digs and Anna Tuttle seven kills to set the pace for Wilson.
