Barker tops Holland

Medina Journal-Register — Pulling away down the stretch, top seeded Barker blanked No. 8 Holland 4-0 Wednesday at Vets Park.

Barker took a narrow 1-0 lead at the half as Kayla Moeller scored with just 4:11 remaining off n assist from Jessica Heffron. A corner y Heather Mason started the play.

The Lady Raiders finally opened up a little breathing room when Melissa Grosshans scored nine minutes into the second half as Olivia Denny earned the assist.

Barker capped off the win with a pair of late goals. First Moeller scored from Kim Zaepfel and then Denny tallied off assists from Zaepfel and Morgan Brown.

Barker will now face Newfane in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Amherst.

In another Class C quarterfinal, No. 2 Eden defeated No. 7 Medina 3-0 at Orchard Park.

Eden, which led 1-0 at the half, will now face No. 3 Akron in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Amherst.

No. 3 Olean 0

BUFFALO - Top seeded East Aurora blanked No. 4 Albion 4-0 and No. 2 Newfane shut out No. 3 Olean 3-0 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Section VI Class B-1 playoffs.

Brett Stern had two goals and an assist and Brian Doyle a goal for Newfane which will next face East Aurora for the B-1 title at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamburg.
