AKRON — It was quite the day for first-year coach Aaron Moessinger and the Medina boys swim team.
The Mustangs traveled to Akron for a Niagara-Orleans League meet and won every race, coming away with a definitive 124-30 victory. Medina improves to 2-1 in league play, 4-2 overall, while Akron drops to 0-3 in the league.
Junior Austin Heil had a nice afternoon for the Mustangs, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.12 and also emerging victorious in the 500 freestyle at 6:06.20.
Sophomore Chase Pecoraro won the 200 individual medley at 2:39.56, and also took the 100 breaststroke at 1:21.00.
Junior Ian McAnn won the 50 freestyle for the Mustangs at 26.58, while junior Derek Donley won the 100 freestyle at 1:03.83 and freshman Powell Stephens won the 100 backstroke at 1:24.84. Senior Patrick Roberts won the 100 butterfly, with a time of 1:17.16.
Medina also won all three relay races on the afternoon. The Mustangs return to action Thursday, traveling to Roy-Hart for a rivalry contest.
Roy-Hart 110, Newfane 55
NEWFANE — Nich DiNardo led the way for Roy-Hart with victories in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, as the Rams kept the good vibes rolling with an easy victory at Newfane in a league contest on Tuesday night.
Roy-Hart remains perfect on the season at 3-0 in N-O competition, 7-0 overall, while Newfane drops to 1-2 in the league.
DiNardo posted a time of 2:04.18 in the 200 freestyle, and clocked in at 5:48.69 in the 500 free.
Roy-Hart coach Bruce Matthews was particularly impressed by the competition in the 100 breaststroke, which saw Newfane's Andrew Hamelink edge Roy-Hart's Lyle Wagner by just one-tenth of a second, 1:10.29 to 1:10.39.
Roy Phipps also emerged as a double winner for the Rams, winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.53, and emerging victorious in the 100 freestyle at 51.69.
Barker 68, Albion 26
ALBION — Junior Casey Webb won the 50 freestyle, eighth-grader Collin Webb won the 100 freestyle, and the Raiders cruised to victory at Albion in a Niagara-Orleans League contest on Tuesday afternoon.
Morgan Seielstad won the 200 individual medley for Albion, but other than that, it was all Barker. Tim Flint won the 200 freestyle, Alonzo St. Louis won the 100 butterfly, and the Raiders also won all three relay races under the guidance of head coach Mike Gendrue.
Barker improves to 2-1 in league play, while Albion falls to 1-2. Barker returns to action Thursday, with a home contest against Akron.
Albion resumes competition on Friday at Newfane.
Medina 87, Akron 83
AKRON — Emma Gardner won both the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, as the Lady Mustangs held on for a narrow victory over Akron in a Niagara-Orleans League meet on Tuesday afternoon.
"Akron came on very strong on the back end," Medina coach Mary Dooley said. "That's just the nature of the beast; it's how it goes."
Gardner swam a 1:03.87 in the 100 freestyle, and clocked in at 2:25.19 in the 200 freestyle.
Medina's Andrea Toussaint won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:16.60, and the team of Max Wright, Gardner, Sam Wendling and Emilee Austin combined to win the 200 freestyle relay.
The Lady Mustangs return to action Thursday afternoon, traveling to Roy-Hart for a league contest.
Newfane 99, Roy-Hart 69
NEWFANE — Lindsay Yates won the 50 freestyle for Roy-Hart with a time of 27.43, but the Lady Rams dropped their first contest of the season on Tuesday afternoon, in a league contest at perennial N-O heavyweight Newfane.
Despite the defeat, Roy-Hart coach Bruce Matthews said that a trip to Newfane is always an enjoyable proposition.
"We always enjoy coming up here," Matthews said. "We wish we could've closed the 30-point spread a bit, but we'll get a chance back at our pool. Newfane's girls have a lot of depth."
Roy-Hart's Calee Coleman won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:45.75, and also took the 100 backstroke at 1:09.93. Hannah Rausch won the 100 freestyle at 1:05.59.
Newfane was led by Allie DeBiase, who won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke as an individual, while contributing to team victories in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Roy-Hart falls to 2-1 in league play, 6-1 overall, while Newfane remains unblemished at 3-0 in the league.
Barker 75, Albion 19
ALBION — Senior Brooke Targus led the Lady Raiders with victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, as Barker cruised to victory at Albion in a Niagara-Orleans League contest on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Emma Jenks won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, while senior Hayley Richbart won the 100 backstroke and junior Renee Levy took the 200 freestyle.
The Lady Raiders return to action Thursday afternoon for a home meet against Akron. Barker improves to 2-1 in league play, while Albion falls to 0-3.
