Olean ousts Albion spikers

Medina Journal-Register — OLEAN — Top seeded Olean defeated defending champion No. 4 Albion 25-17, 25-21-25-14 Thursday in the semifinal round of the Section VI Class B-2 volleyball playoffs.

Olean will now face Springville, a three set winner over Depew, on Monday for the

B-2 title.

“We missed five serves in the first set and you can’t do that against a team like Olean. You have to do the little things right,” said Albion coach Ann Capacci. “Olean is a very good team. They have a lot of balance, they can hit the ball any where and they move very well”.

Cady Messmer had 12 spiking kills and four service aces to lead Albion.

Kelsee Soule added five kills and an ace, Eboni Taylor four kills, Brie Dixon five digs, Meghan Hurley 13 assists and three aces, Halle Jurs six assists and thee aces and Brooke Wilson two aces for the Purple Eagles.

Albion finishes the season at 14-5.

In the Class C semifinals, Niagara-Orleans League champion and No. 2 seeded Wilson dropped a 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 decision to No. 3 Eden.

Section VI Class C semifinals

Top seeded Barker will take on Niagara-Orleans League foe No. 5 Newfane at 5:30 this afternoon in the semifinals of the Section VI Class C playoffs at Amherst.

Barker shut Newfane out twice during the N-O campaign by scores of 8-0 and 6-0.

The N-O will also be represented in the second semifinal game as No. 3 Akron takes on No. 2 Eden at 7:30 at Amherst.

The Class C title game is slated for 5:30 pm. next Wednesday at Amherst.
