Kendall bows in C-3 final

Medina Journal-Register — ROCHESTER - Taking command at the outset with a quick burst of three straight baskets off turnovers, No. 2 seed Clyde-Savannah went on to defeat No. 5 Kendall 72-28 Saturday in the Section V Class C-3 championship game at the Blue Cross Arena.

A three by Joe Faniel followed by two quick buckets by Joemaine Bogan, all off turnovers, propelled Clyde-Savannah out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes and the Golden Eagles were never headed.

“The first three to four minutes are very important in a game like this and that start really shook our confidence and we were never able to recover,” Kendall coach Justin Laureano. “The turnovers hurt and we took some poor shots. We were out matched. They are a very good team.”

Kendall did briefly cut the deficit to 9-5 after a lay-up by Jonah Dalcin and a three by Mookie Nauden but Clyde-Savannah answered right back with a 9-4 run to close the period. Another three by Faniel ignited that uprising which also included back-to-back baskets by Bogan as the Golden Eagles opened up a 18-9 lead.

Keeping the momentum, the Golden Eagles got back-to-back baskets off turnovers by Matt Sharp and Kam DiSanto to open the second period. Those tallies ignited a 16-5 run which helped boost the Golden Eagles advantage to 20, 34-14 at the half.

Continued to be plagued by turnovers and ice cold shooting, Kendall was blanked from the field in the period until Dan Kelly hit a jumper with just 20 seconds remaining.

Clyde-Savannah kept rolling in high gear in the third period putting together a 21-8 surge to stretch the advantage to 33, 55-22, at the three-quarter mark. Bogan had seven, incuding a dunk off a turnover, to lead that uprising.

Bogan finished with a game high 22 points and Faniel and DiSanto both netted 11. Bogan and DiSanto both earned All-Tournament honors.
