Medina Journal-Register — Clinching at least a tie for the title, undefeated Alden rolled to a 41-20 victory over Medina Friday in a B East Division contest at Vets Park.
Improving to 4-0 in the division and 6-0 overall, Alden moved on top to stay by scoring on its first two possessions on runs of 15 yards by tailback Corey Barczykowski and one yard by quarterback Brian Stoldt.
Medina did cut the deficit to 14-6 before the end of the first quarter on a 64-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Hellwig to Lonnie Taylor but the Mustangs would get no closer on the Homecoming evening.
The Medina defense did stop Alden’s next two possessions on a fumble recovery by Josh Cuadrado, which was forced by a hit by Ben Austin, and an interception by Kyle Barna .
However, the Bulldogs offense got rolling again in the second quarter on a one yard touchdown run by Jaronetay Thompson and a 28-yard scoring pass from Stoldt to Dylan Dussaul to open up a communing 27-6 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs lead soared to 41-6 as Thompson scored on a pair of two-yard touchdown runs, one in the third quarter and the other early in the fourth.
Medina did rally for two late touchdowns on a nine-yard pass from Hellwig to Barna and a five-yard run by Danny Brown. Brett Pecoraro added the two-point converse natter the second score.
Taylor and Austin registered sacks for the Mustangs defensive unit.
Alden, which has now won for in a row over Medina, takes an 8-5 lead in the series. The Bulldogs can now lock up sole possession of the B East title with a home field win over Newfane Friday.
The loss drops Medina to 2-2 and 3-3 overall.
The Mustangs next host rival Albion Friday in the regular season finale.
