Albion girls prep to defend track title

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Anchored by a solid unless of 10 returning All-League meet place finishers, four time defending champion Albion is prepping to begin defense of its Niagara-Orleans League girls track title.

Senior Eboni Taylor, who captured both the 100 hurdles and triple jump and placed fourth in the long jump at last year’s All-League meet, and junior Abby Squicciarini, who repeated as the 100 and 200 champion, head Albion’s large veteran contingent.

That group also includes seniors Skyler Greene (1st in shot-put, 6th in discus), Cady Messmer (2nd in high jump) and Brie Dixon (3rd in pole vault); junior Kayla Doyle (4th in 200); sophomores Megan Rosato (6th in 1500) and Karissa Stark (6th in pole vault); freshman Mariah Elsenheimer (5th in 100) and eighth grader Chanyce Powell (5th in triple jump).

The Purple Eagles upper classmen contingent also includes seniors Maria Ostafew, Taylor Soule (pole vault), Tiffany Standish and Elizabeth Toribio (hurdles and jumps) along with juniors Carly Adamo, Sami Gramlich, Jessica Green, Kendell Piccirilli, Janie Schutz and Arianna Smith.

“We’ve got some good kids back but it’s a new year and we know the league will be a good challenge,” said coach Mark Hryvniak.

The Purple Eagles are schedule to begin their title defense on Aprii 18 at Wilson with the first home meet April 25 against Akron.
