Avon tops Medinain tourney finale

Medina Journal-Register — AVON - A huge edge at the free throw line keyed the host Lady Braves to a 53-34 victory over Medina Friday in the championship game of the Avon Tournament.

Avon made good on 19 of 37 free throw opportunities to just seven of 10 for Medina.

Medina jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead but Avon cut the deficit to one, 19-18, at the half and then used a free throw aided 18-3 third period scoring surge to move on top to stay at 36-22.

Alba Perez scored 15 for Medina as Olivia Hermann and Tanisha Robinson both added five, Nicole Blount four, Abby Button three and Bailey Ames two.

Perez and Hermann were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Now at 4-1, Medina next visits Roy-Hart Friday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.
