Medina tops R-H; Wilson bests Albion

Medina Journal-Register — MIDDLEPORT - A big second quarter scoring edge keyed Medina to a 51-40 victory over Roy-Hart Friday in a Niagara-Orleans League girls game.

Trailing 15-11, Medina rallied to outscore Roy-Hart 18-2 in the decisive second quarter to take the lead for good by a 29-17 margin at the half.

Alba Perez scored nine of her 22 points to lead that Medina rally which also included two buckets by Tanisha Robinson and a three by Abby Button. Robinson finished with 12 and Button nine.

Olivia Kelkenberg shared game high scoring honors with 22 for Roy-Hart as Taylor Fry added 10.

Medina maintained a 10 point, 41-31, lead at the three-quarter mark as Perez scored six and Robinson four in the third period.

Kelkenberg netted eight and Fry four for the Lady Rams in the stanza.

Roy-Hart did rally back to within five, 43-38, midway in the fourth quarter after two baskets by Kelkenberg and one by Morgan Jones but the Lady Rams could get no closer.

Medina answered with a key 8-0 run including a lay-up and a rebound bucket by Perez, a jumper by Button and a rebound basket by Nicole Blount to regain a 51-38 lead and put a lock on the win.

“We had some kids come in and really step up at the right time for us,” said Medina coach Ken Haask who cited Blount, Kendra Hill, Emma Ambrose and Taylor Miller.”Roy-Hart played us tough but I thought we handled the pressure well. This is a tough place to play so it was a real good team win and team effort.”

Medina improves to 2-0 in the league while Roy-Hart slips to 0-2.

Wilson 60, Allbion 50

WILSON - Steadily pulling away, Wilson topped Albion 60-50 as Emily Lasher had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Jamie Curry 12 points, eight assists and eight steals to lead the way.

Justice Nauden scored 16, Kelsee Soule 12, Eboni Taylor 11 and Sarah Papponetti seven for Albion.
