R-H, Newfane clinch ties for N-O swim titles

Medina Journal-Register — NEWFANE — Extending their reigns, both the defending champion Roy-Hart boys and Newfane girls teams clinched at least a tie for Niagara-Orleans League swim titles with victories Tuesday.

The six-time defending champion Roy-Hart boys downed Newfane 116-49 to remain unbeaten at 8-0.

The three-time defending champion Newfane girls likewise remained unbeaten at 8-0 by besting runner-up (6-2) Roy-Hart 95-75.

Jeff Durbin doubled in the 200 and 500 free and Andrew Ayers in the individual medley and backstroke to lead the Roy-Hart boys squad which also got wins from Lyle Wagner (50 free), Raymond Sack (100 butterfly) and Roy Phipps (100 free).

Lil Masters took both the 200 and 500 free and Kiki Dy the 50 and 100 fee to pace the Newfane girls squad which also had Kate Bochnewetch take the backstroke and Allie DeBiase the breaststroke.

Sarah Dimayo doubled in the individual medley and butterfly for Roy-Hart.

Barker 75, Albion 19 (boys)

Barker 60, Albion 34 (girls)

ALBION - Improving to 6-2, the Barker boys squad defeated Albion (0-8) 75-19 as Brian Alt doubled in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.

The Raiders als got wins by Casey Webb (50 free). Alonzo St. Louis (100 butterfly), Zach Shaft (100 free) and Tyler Swann (100 breaststroke).

Morgan Seielstad doubled for Albion in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

The Barker girls completed the sweep by downing Albion 60-34 to regain the .500 mark at 4-4.

Emma Jenks doubled in the 50 and 100 free fanned Brooke Targus in the individual medley and backstroke for Barker which also got wins from Ruth Gendrue (500 free) and Hayley Richbart (100 breaststroke).

Elizabeth Jurs doubled in the 200 free and 100 butterfly for Albion which slips to 0-8.

Akron 99,5, Medina 71.5 (boys)

Akron 92, Medina 78 (girls)

AKRON - Anthony Laurienzo doubled in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Andrew Grant in the individual medley and 100 free to lead Akron (6-2) past Medina (3-5).

Medina’s lone win was by Chris Horgan in the 100 breaststroke.

Completing the sweep the Akron girls squad (5-3) bested Medina (1-7) as Julia Diebel doubled in the 100 free and 100 backstroke.

Emma Gardner won both the 200 free and 100 butterfly for Medina and Hayley Cogovan too the 100 breastroke.
