Albion, Roy-Hart win

Medina Journal-Register — Putting together a strong stretch run, Medina downed visiting Akron 50-40 Tuesday in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.

In other N-O action, Albion edged past host Barker 44-40 and Roy-Hart downed visiting CSAT 70-56.

Tonight Wilson will host rival Newfane in a key mid-season battle of 6-0 teams for the N-O lead.

Alba Perez scored nine of her game high 19 points, Tanisha Robinson seven of her 11 and Kendra Hil all of her six to spearhead a big 22-12 fourth quarter uprising that keyed Medina to the victory.

"We played better in the fourth quarter but we've got to be more consistent," Medina coach Ken Haak said.

Tobie Abrams scored 11 and Courtney Hallet-Jonathan 10 to lead Akron.

There were three ties and five lead changes over the first 12 minutes before Akron put together an 8-0 run and move out to a 24-16 half-time advantage. Hallet-Jonathan had a three and a jumper and Paige Buscaglia a lay-up off a turnover to key that uprising.

However, Medina rallied back into a 28-28 tie at the three-quarter mark as Taylor Miller had a lay-up off a steal and a jumper to start a 10-4 third period Medina run which also included a three by Robinson and a jumper by Bailey Ames.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs then used the big 22-12 fourth quarter surge to claim the victory.

A lay-up off a steal by Hill followed quickly by a lay-up by Perez and a rebound bucket by Hill ignited the decisive uprising.

Robinson and Perez took turns hitting back-to-back baskets to up the Medina advantage to 10 at 44-34 with less than three mintues to play.

Perez, who went 9 of 11 from the free throw line on the night, also had 15 rebounds and five steals. Hill added six rebounds and Robinson five steals.
