Medina rolls past CSAT

Medina Journal-Register — BUFFALO — Medina used a big 33-10 scoring surge over the middle two periods to key a 61-35 victory over CSAT Friday in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.

Tanisha Robinson poured in a career high 30 points, including six threes to spearhead the Medina attack.

Alba Perez added 11 points, 18 rebounds and 8 steals and Abby Button 11 rebounds and 8 points for the Mustangs which improve to 5-3 in N-O action.

Leading by a narrow 13-12 margin, Medina used a big 16-4 second quarter surge to pull away. Robinson erupted for 14 points, including four threes, to lead that uprising as the Mustangs opened up a 29-16 half-time advantage.

“They used a box and one on Alba but the rest of the team stepped up and Tanisha really hit the open shots when she needed to,” Medina coach Ken Haak said.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs then put a lock on the win by outpointing CSAT 17-6 in the third period to stretch the advantage to 46-22. Button tallied six points, Robinson five and Perez, Kendra Hill and Olivia Hermann two arch to lead the Mustangs balanced attack during that stretch.

“I was really pleased with our team man-to-man defense,” said Haak . “We played hard and created a lot of turnovers.”

The loss drops CSAT to 1-7.

Wilson 53, Roy-Hart 40

WILSON —Emily Lasher had 17 points, 15 rebounds and eight steals; Jamie Curry nine points, eight steals and six assists and Dana Smith 10 rebounds and eight points to lead Wilson past Roy-Hart.

Olivia Kelkenberg led Roy-Hart with 15.

Wilson gradually built leads of 13-11 after one quarter, 25-19 at the half and 40-32 at the three-quarter mark.

Akron 27, Albion 22

AKRON — Snapping a season long seven league game losing streak Akron upended Albion (5-3) 27-22 Friday.

Eboni Taylor scored 11 and Kelsee Soule six for Albion which trailed 15-12 at the half and 25-19 at the three-quarter mark.

Jenifer Komosinski scored eight, Courtney Hallet-Jonathan seven and Gina Henley six to lead the way for Akron.

Newfane 47, Barker 36

BARKER — Trailing 30-29, Newfane (7-1) rallied with a big 18-6 fourth quarter scoring surge to defeat Barker (2-6) 47-36.

Katie Shaw scored 15 to lead the way for Newfane which stays within a game of front-running Wilson

Byron-Bergen 43, Lyndonville 32

BERGEN — Sierra VanWycke scored nine points and Haley Anderson and Abigil Feldman six each for Lyndonville in the 43-32 Geensee Region League loss to Byron-Bergen.

Notre Dame 70, Holley 28

Alyssa Scherer scored 14 and Nicki Mauro eight for Holley in the 70-28 G-R loss to Notre Dame..
