Medina Journal-Register — GASPORT - Jumping out to a quick first inning lead, Medina went on to defeat Roy-Hart 1 4-2 Wednesday to lock up the Midget B League regular season championship.
Winning pitcher Matt Riemer banged out thee hits and Justin Morgan, Kyle Hermann and Josh Scroger each added two to lead the attack for Medina which finishes the regular season at 12-2-1.
On the mound, Riemer, who had a no hitter going into the sixth inning, finished with a four hitter and 12 strikeouts.
Medina moved on top to stay by scoring twice in the first inning on RBI singles by Riemer and Hermann. A one out single by Morgan ignited that uprising.
Medina made it 4-0 by scoring once in the fourth as Devonte Howard doubled and came home on a single by Hermann, and once in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Riemer which followed a hit by Scroger.
Roy-Hart did mount a threat in the third inning getting the bases loaded with one out on three straight walks. However, Riemer got out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop out to Morgan at shortstop.
Riemer then registered eight straight strikeouts from the fourth into the sixth innings before Benjamin Maynard broke up the no hit bid with a single for Roy-Hart.
Roy-Hart finally broke onto the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a a single by CJ Fitch, a double by Justin Heschke and a single by Brennen Hess. However, Riemer bore down to get out of further trouble on a fly out to center and a pop out to third preserving the win and the title as Roy-Hart left two runners stranded.
Medina 8, Wheatfield 0
SANBORN - Four home runs powered Medina past Wheatfield 8-0 Tuesday in a Midget A game.
Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Medina erupted for five runs in the third inning on a three-run homer by Stephen Rogenmoser followed immediately by back-to-back solo shots by Caleb Lang and Matt Riemer. A walk and a single by Josh Scroger set up the threat.
Austin Heschke later hit a solo homer for Medina in the fifth inning and Riemer capped off the scoring with a two-run single in the sixth frame.
Riemer had a total of three hits as Josh Scroger, Rogenmoser, Heschke and Chris Scroger each added two.
Chris Scroger pitched the first six innings scattering three hits and striking out five. Lang came on to hurl the seventh giving up no hits and striking out two.
Medina improves to 5-6 with the win.
Medina U12 Teamto host tournament
Medina’s U12 Travel baseball team will be hosting a six team tournament Saturday and Sunday at Butts Park.
The tournament field will include Medina, Albion, Roy-Hart, Wilson, Lockport and Midtown of Niagara Falls.
In Saturday’s round-robin competition Medina will face Lockport at 9 a.m., Midtown at 11:15 a,m,. and Wilson at 3:45 p.m. Albion will take on Roy-Hart at 9 a.m., Wilson at 1:30 p.m. and Lockport at 3:45 p.m.
After the round robin is complete the teams will be seeded and Sunday will be a single elimination tournament. Seeds 3 through 6 will play at 10 a.m.
