Albion U12 is second at Medina Tournament

Medina Journal-Register — Albion earned second place honors at the Medina U12 baseball tournament this past weekend dropping a 5-1 decision to Lockport in the title contest.

Brennan Hughes had a double and Carmine Albanese a single for Albion’s only hits in the finals as Lockport used two run scoring bursts in the second and fourth innings to claim the win.

Albion advanced to the finals by downing Medina 8-2 in the semis. The pitching trio of Bryce Pritchard, Devon Gaylord ad Nate Moore combined to hurl a two hitter wih 14 strikeouts.

Wes Stilwell and Brian Fry had singles for Medina’s only hits.

Albanese, Hughes and Harrison Brown each had two hits for Albion as Moore, Kirk Ellison, Vincent Zona and Danial Behrend each added one.

Allbion also nipped Medina 10-9 in the round-robin portion of the tourney scoring the winning run in the seventh inning. Zona singled and came home with the game winner on a single by Gaylord.

Owen Frasier and Nic Russo both hit home runs and Fry doubled for Medina which also got hits from Nick Dingman, Aiden Pitts and Tim Roy..

Albion also needed seven innings to nip Roy-Hart 5-4 in the opening round. In that one, Zona tripled and scored the game winner on a single by Hughes.

Earlier in the game, Albion scored three quick runs in the first inning as Pritchard and Isaiah Callicutt both doubled.

In the other round-robin games Albion lost to Lockport 12-0 and romped past Wilson 18-6. 

Eli Sugar had three hits, Pritchard and Gaylord two each and Albanese a double in the win over Wilson.

Medina lost to Lockport 10-4 but rolled past Wilson 20-2. Frasier hit two home runs in the loss to Lockport. Fry had a three-run double and Rickie Pitts a double for Medina in the romp over Wilson which featured a huge 16 run third inning. Wed Stilwell, Aiden Pitts, Adyson Smith, Austin Mosher, Michael Kleinhans, Roy, Russo and Dingman also all added hits. On the mound, Fry and Russo combined for eight strikeouts.

Medina players and coaches added a thank-you to the team’s sponsors including Gardner’s Car Wash, Frick and Frack Embroidery, Petunia’s and several others who chose to remain nameless.
