Youth football season gets underway Saturday

Medina Journal-Register — Though only mid August youth football action swings into high gear Saturday with the opening of the Niagara Orleans Football Association (NOFA) season.

Highligting the league openers locally will be Akron at Medina and Albion at Holley.

At Vets Park, the Medina Ponys (Beginner Divison) will play a 1 p.m., the Colts (Mini Div.) at 3 p.m., the Broncos (JV Div.) at 5 p.m. and the Stallions (Varsity Div.) at 7 p.m.

The Albion at Holley contests will be at Beginners 10 a.m., Mini noon, JV 2 p.m. and Varsity 4 p.m.

This year the league has teams from 11 communities competing during a 10 week regular season. Those squads also include Roy-Hart, Newfane, Pembroke, Tri-Town, Batavia, Attica and Oakfield-Elba.

The Bar/Lyn squads have disbanded with the Lyndonville players joining Medina teams and the Barker players joining Roy-Hart teams to maintain the same merger as the high school squads.

The regular season will run through Oct. 26 with the playoff semifinals scheduled for Nov. 2 and the finals for Nov. 9.

Medina will also have home games on Aug. 24 facing Roy-Hart while Albion will host Batavia.
