Medina Journal-Register — Bolstered by the return of five starters, Medina is getting set to begin defense of its Niagara-Orleans League tennis championship.

Medina, which ended a six year N-O title drought last spring by compiling an 11-1 record, is led by senior Chris Horgan and junior Ben Howell who manned the first two singles spots a year ago, along withj seniors Arsalan Mustafa and Troy Fidanza and freshman Christian Snyder who all started at doubles.

Horgan and Howell were both first team All-League selections and Mustafa an honorable mention pick.

“We have some players returning at key positions so hopefully that bodes well,” said coach Chris Horgan

The Mustangs roster also includes seniors Richard Craft, Bryce O’Keefe, Zachary Waild and Robert Wendt; junior Nate Pace; sophomores Brian Bogan, Samuel Busch, Nicholas Dieter, Thomas Horgan, Christopher Keller, Sibtain Mustafa, and Addison Zavitz; freshmen Zachary Laird, Meghan O’Keefe, Tristan Sanders, Alex Snyder, Corey Strickland and eighth grader Michael Cardone.

“It’s a good group and a lot of fun to coach,” said coach Horgan. “We have the makings for a very competitive team. We’ve got good depth and there is good competition for starting spots. The key is playing consistently and minimize our unforced errors.”

The Mustangs are scheduled to begin their title defense at home against Akron on Aprl 15. In a tune up Medina is slated to host Batavia on April 9 in a non league contest.

“Our goal is to go against strong competition so we can see how we measure up,” said coach Horgan.”I like having five starters back and we have some good talent pushing for starting spots.”
