Tiger gridders romp past Chiefs

Medina Journal-Register — PEMBROKE - A quick two touchdown first quarter scoring burst sparked the Lyndonville Tigers to a 40-0 victory over the Jamestown Chiefs Saturday in a Northeastern Football Alliance game at the Pembroke Town Park.

Derrick Adams had three long touchdown runs to lead the Lyndonville offense which also got touchdowns carries by Clay Johnson and Rob Williams.

AJ Cleveland highlighted the Tigers shutout defense effort with three interceptions. He returned one pick for a score and the other two set up touchdowns.

Regaining the .500 mark at 2-2, Lyndonville jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter advantage as Johnson scored on a seven yard touchdown run and quarterback Denver Mackintosh hooked up with Adams for a 58 yard TD pass play. Mackintosh had runs of 15 and 16 yards to set up the first touchdown and then he ran for the two-point conversion.

Lyndonville doubled its advantage to 28-0 at the half as Williams ran two yards for one touchdown and Cleveland returned a pass interception 65 yards for another. Nate Scott added the two-point conversion run after Williams’ touchdown.

Cleveland’s first interception of the day gave the Tigers possession at the Chiefs 37 setting up Williams’ touchdown. Williams had back-to-back runs of 14 and 15 yards before going the final two yards for the TD.

The Lyndonville half-time advantage could have been even bigger but the Tigers had two other drives stopped on downs inside the Chiefs 15 yard line. Then in the third quarter a penalty wiped out what would have been a 64 yard touchdown run by Adams.

Adams, who had some 160 yards rushing on his three scoring runs alone, capped off the Tigers big offensive effort with TD runs of 30 and 68 yards in the fourth quarter.

On special teams the Tigers also got a fumble recovery by Howie Wilson after a botched Chiefs punt attempt.

The loss drops the Chiefs to 2-2.

The Tigers next visit the Ithaca Warriors at 7 p.m. Saturday.
