Medina rallies in 7th for wild softball win

Medina Journal-Register — A last ditch rally earned Medina a wild 22-21 victory over CSAT Monday in the Niagara-Orleans League softball opener at rainy Vets Park.

In the other N-O openers, Akron defeated defending champion Albion 8-4 and Newfane downed Barker 15-5.

Trailing 21-18 Medina rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim the victory. A two-run triple by Jessica Rosenbeck capped off the decisive uprising which was ignited by a walk and a single by Olivia Hermann.

CSAT had grabbed the 21-18 lead by scoring nine times in the top of the seventh.

Earlier, Medina erased a 12-2 deficit by erupting for 12 runs in the fifth inning highlighted by two singles each by Hermann and Stormi Kruger.

Medina then built up what proved to be a short lived 18-12 advantage by scoring four times in the sixth as Hermann had a two-run homer.

Medina next hosts Akron at 4:45 this afternoon.

Akron 8, Albion 4

ALBION - A four run first inning put Akron on top to stay in posting the 8-4 victory over Albion.

Akron tacked on two more runs in both the second and third innings. Mel Jurowicz had a two-run single in the third.

Sarah Papponetti and Kelsee Soule both had two hits for Albion as Halle Jurs and Jessica Grimes both added one. Soule and Jurs each had an RBI.

Albion next visits Barker at 4:45 this afternoon.

Newfane 15, Barker 5 

NEWFANE - Morgan Bedford had three hits, including a home run and three RBIs, and Jerica Dietrich and Sam Schermerhorn both added two-run singles to highlight a 13 hit attack for Newfane in the 15-5 victory over Barker.

Gabby Sinnott and winning pitcher Alexis Moreland each added a pair of hits for Newfane.

Moreland struck out 12 and scattered eight hits.

Brooke Targus had three hits and three RBIs for Barker.

Lyndonville 22, CSAT 6

Rebekah had four hits including a double and Jenna Castricone and Alex Harling two hits each including a double to lead Lyndonvlle to a 22-6 non league win at CSAt Tuesday.

Maddy Boyle pitched the Lady Tigers to the win allowing only five hits.

Newfane 16, North Tonawanda 4

Gabby Sinnott had two hits for Newfane which benefitted fro m13 walks i ntheno league win over North Tonawanda Tuesday.
