Medina Journal-Register — Getting goal production from five different players, Medina posted a rain soaked 10-5 non league victory over Lockport Monday night at Vets Park.
However, the Mustangs then dropped a narrow 12-11 decision at East Aurora Tuesday in a Class C Division game.
Matt Zacher and Ben Austin each scored three goals, Derek Fuller two and Kyle Barna and Brett Pecoraro one each to lead the balanced attack for Medina against Lockport.
Medina jumped out to leads of 4-2 after one period and 6-3 at the half as Austin and Zacher both netted two goals and Barna and Fuller one each during that stretch.
The Mustangs extended their advantage to 9-4 at the three-quarter mark after third period tallies by Austin, Zacher and Fuller.
Pecoraro netted Medina’s lone fourth period goal.
East Aurora 12, Medina 11
East Aurora outscored Medina 3-2 in the decisive fourth quarter to post the narrow 12-11 victory and improve to 2-0 in the division.
Medina grabbed a 10-9 lead early in the final period on a goal by Barna and then retied the contest at 11-11 on a tally by Fuller with 3:8 remaining.
The host Blue Devils though netted a power play goal with 1:47 to go to claim the narrow win.
“We got off to a slow start and they made fewer mistakes than we did in the final quarter,” said Medina coach Gordy Luthart. “Overall though it was a good game. We played hard.”
East Aurora jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead but Medina rallied into a 7-6 halft-time advantage by exploding for secen goals in the second period. Two goals by Barna ignited that rally which also included two each by Fuller and Zacher and one by Austin.
The contest was deadlocked 9-9 at the three-quarter mark.
Now at 2-1 in the division and 4-1 overall, Medina got three goals on the day from Barna and Fuller, two from Austin and Zacher and one by Aaron Feltz.
Medina next visits Lw-Port at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Medina 3.5, Batavia 2
Singles wins by Chris Horgan and Christian Snyder led Medina to a rainy 3.5-2 non league win over Batavia Tuesday.
The Mustangs also got doubles wins from the teams of Rich Craft- Sibtain Mustafa and Brian Bogan-Tristan Sanders.
Holley 3, Attica 2
A win by Seth DeLuca at second singles provided the margin of victory for Holley as the Hawks scored a rainy 3-2 Genesee Region League opening win over Attica.
The Hawks also got wins by Will Barniak at third singles and by the second doubles team of Brady Smith and Dave Sutton.
