Fillies prep for playoffs

Medina Journal-Register — Having put together a strong second half surge the Medina U10 Fillies have earned the No. 1 seed in the B Division for the league softball playoffs which begin this week.

The U10 Fillies, which won four of their last five regular season games, will host the winner of the Tonawanda vs. Warsaw game on Thursday.

Medina finished the regular season at 5-7 after dropping a 12-6 decision to Clarence Red. Morgan Allis had a two-run home run in that contest as Chloe Stinson, Camri King, Grace Cook and Grace Hughes all added hits.

Prior to that outing, Medina had a four game winning streak riding the pitching of Lacey Kenward and great defense from King, Allise, Cook and Brooklyn Brown.

The Medina U12 Fillies squad, which also being league playoff action this week, dropped a 11-3 decision to Wheatfield Nitro Thursday in the home regular season finale.

Grace Masse and Haley Smith both had two hits as Ryenn Oliver and Cora Payne each added one. Smith’s hits included a double.

Oliver also handled the pitching duties registering six strikeouts.

The Medina U14 Fillies squad closed out its regular season by dropping a narrow 7-6 decision to visiting Lockport in eight innings.

Medina pulled even at 4-4 by scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run sacrifice by Nicole Cooper. However, Lockport then outscored Medina 3-2 in the eighth to claim the win.

Alisha Scroger had two hits for the Fillies which begin playoff action Tuesday.
