Medina Journal-Register — GASPORT - In a sea-saw battle, Medina outlasted Roy-Hart 11-7 Wednesday in a Niagara-Orleans League make-up baseball game.
In Genesee Region League action, Lyndonville downed visiting Kendall 17-3 and Holley defeated Byron-Bergen/Elba 19-3.
In other N-O action, Wilson downed Albion 9-5 and Akron topped Barker 14-3.
Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, Medina regained the lead for good by scoring four times in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run double by Jason Hellwig, an error and and RBI single by Danny Barnes. A double by Adam Hoot ignited the uprising.
The Mustangs added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Lawson Fenton, which followed singles by Hoot and Hellwig.
Hoot had a total of four hits on the day as Hellwig, Barnes and Tyler Colonna each added two. Colonna’s hits were both run producing doubles in the first and third innings.
Ryan Farewell, Josh Baptiste and Nick Morse each had two hits for Roy-Hart.
Roy-Hart grabbed an early 3-2 lead by scoring three times in the second on three walks, an error and a single by Farewell.
Medina answered with three in the fourth on an RBI single by Barnes and sacrifices by Dustin Wells and Hoot for a 5-4 Mustangs lead.
Roy-Hart rallied back into a 6-6 tie by scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth on hits by Hescke and Morse, two walks and a hit batsman.
However, Medina again answered with the decisive four run uprising in the sixth highlighted by Hellwig’s go-ahead two-run double.
Hellwig pitched the first five innings and Hoot the final two.
Medina improves to 2-1 in N-O action while Roy-Hart is 0-1.
Lyndonvlle 17, Kendall 3
LYNDONVILLE - Pounding out 15 hits, Lyndonville bested Kendall 17-3 to improve to 3-1 in G-R action.
Justin Edwards, Ty Hrovat, Eddie Silversmith, Christian Vale, James Ianni and Brad Smith each had two hits to lead Lyndonville’s balanced attack.
The Tigers took the lead for good by scoring four quick runs in the first inning as Edward, Ianni, Chris Scroger and Austin Buckland all had hits.
Wilson 9, Albion 5
ALBION - Trailing 5-0, Wilson capitalized on a rash of walks and errors to score nine runs in the seventh inning and claim a 9-5 victory over Albion.
John Page and John Warne both had two hits and Ed Narburgh a triple for Albion.
Albion is now 2-1 in the league and Wilson is 2-0.
Akron 14, Barker 3
AKRON - Trailing 3-0, Akron rallied for five runs in the home half of the first inning to spark a 14-3 victory over Barker.
A two-run single by Trevor Foster highlighted the decisive first inning uprising.
Akron put the game away with four run scoring bursts in both the third and fourth innings. Connor Riggs had a two-run single in the third as did Mitchell Schult in the fourth.
Noah Diebel had three hits on the day for the Tigers.
Tommy James picked up the win on the mound scattering seven hits and striking out nine over six innings.
Akron improves to 2-1 in N-O action and Barker slips to 1-2.
Holley 19,Byron-Bergen/Elba 3
Trailing 3-1, Holley exploded for 16 runs on 10 hits in a marathon fifth inning to earn a 19-3 G-R victory over Byron-Bergen/Elba.
A two-run double by Mike Silvis highlighted the huge rally. Silvis had a total of three hits and five RBIs on the day and Joe DeFelice added two hits including a double.
Holley stays perfect at 3-0 in the league and 4-0 overall.
